Biofeedback for at-risk youth

Atlantic Academy is excited to be offering neurofeedback and heart-rate variability (HRV) biofeedback for our students, two therapies that compliment the other approaches we use to help our kids be as successful as possible.

Neurofeedback has shown great promise in assisting children with emotion dysregulation and behavioral disorders. One of the primary benefits of neurofeedback is its ability to offer personalized treatment tailored to each child's needs. By using specialized equipment, the therapist can measure the child's brain waves and identify patterns associated with emotion dysregulation and behavior challenges. By providing immediate feedback to the child in the form of visual and auditory cues, neurofeedback strengthens the child’s capacity to regulate more effectively and thus, be more successful in otherwise difficult areas of life.

Another therapy we offer is biofeedback, which focuses on increasing HRV, a measure of heart activity that indicates stress levels. Similar to neurofeedback, biofeedback uses technology to monitor HRV and provides immediate feedback to help raise it.

These therapies support our goal of teaching our at-risk students critical skills that result in more effective emotion and behavior regulation, leading to improved social and academic success.
